Say hello to MYKA, the newest addition to Union Square’s dining scene. Founded in Madrid, MYKA specializes in artisanal frozen Greek yogurt made with Greek yogurt and goat’s milk kefir. The annual shareholder’s meeting will take place on Wednesday June 30th at 7PM at the Seafarers’ and Interational House at 123 East 15th St, second floor.
At the meeting, the Board of Directors will be seeking at least one new member. First came a cafe that becomes a wine bar in the evening. Stage 2 of this sprawling complex in part of the original Barnes & Noble bookstore is a restaurant. A very long bar opposite high-top tables leads to a dining room that is a study in recycling, decorated in reclaimed wood, with chairs strapped in rubber from discarded tires. There’s a raw bar and a charcuterie station. The chef, Yvan Lemoine, focuses on seasonal American fare. At his side, and supplying the cafe with baked goods, is Thiago Silva. His bakery will be in a food market, opening later, with pizza, burgers, salads, poké and Peruvian rotisserie chicken. 6 East 18th Street, 212-633-6003, unionfare.com.
Word is that the neighborhood’s first 7-11 convenience store will move in on 14th St. near 6th Ave.
Next week (April 8 to April 12), material and equipment deliveries and installation work will continue on all floors inside the building as well as roof work. We will be work on the new sidewalks around the building as well and plan on completing the 14th street side by the end of the week.
The following week (April 15 to April 19), material and equipment deliveries and installation work will continue on all floors and roofs as well as sidewalk work. Additionally we plan to begin removing the sidewalk shed along 5th ave.
This weekend the site will be open on Saturday, April 6th for interior, superstructure, sidewalk, and hoist removal related activities between the work hours of 7AM and 5PM as permitted by the City.
