Will Union Square Go Pedestrian?
Huge news as The New York Times reports on plans to pedestrianize the block of Broadway above Union Square as well as 17th St. in front of Barnes and Noble. Opinions are divided on this one. What do you think?

NYU has decided not to build a fourth soaring tower adjacent to the three Silver Towers that already loom over Bleecker and Houston Streets. Instead, they’ll build a squatter and bulkier version on the location of the current Morton Williams supermarket. Why the change? Because the community–and IM Pei–didn’t like it.
NYU is slowly but steadily revealing more of its ultimate expansion plans for completion by 2031. They’re epic in scope, and while most of the activity remains below 8th Street, there’s always the chance that their desire to grow will have them heading our way, as if we didn’t already have enough of that going on. Here’s the plan.
This remarkable site from the Greenwich Village Society for Historical Preservation takes us on a lot-by-lot tour of Lower 5th Ave. from 8th St. to 14th St., telling the story of every building at every address over time. Layer after layer of history is revealed, with lots of photos. A remarkable effort!
