Zappos — the Amazon-owned online shoe retailer — appears to be launching a brick-and-mortar location.

Zappos has leased the three-level, roughly 16,000-square-foot corner of 19 Union Square West at 15th Street that was previously home to American Eagle and its concept-store spinoff, AE Studio.

We’re sad—really sad—to announce that Niall Cooney, our stellar super of two and a half years is moving on to another position here in New York. We’ll miss him and thank him for his very hard work, his good humor, and his consistent commitment to doing things right. We’ve been very lucky to have him on our team.

The Board has already begun the process of recruiting a new super to take Niall’s place. The corner of University and 10th will soon be graced by Amorino, a very upscale French purveyor of fine gelato. Just in time for spring.

Target Union Square has finally opened in the former Food Emporium location at Union Square East. At a time when Target is closing other stores partly in response to unprecedented theft, it will be interesting to see what safeguards they put in place in this new location.
