University Diner Closes Today
ByDonSad news from University Place, where the University Diner, one of the last of its kind, is closing today. One can only wonder what will appear in its place, not to mention what will appear at the corner of University and 13th and the corner of Broadway and 14th. The malling of the neighborhood continues.
Latest New School Construction Update
ByDonThis is the 2 week look ahead for the New School’s University Center. Next week (August 5 to August 9), material and equipment deliveries and installation work will continue on all floors inside the building.
The following week (August 12 to August 16), material and equipment deliveries and installation work will continue on all floors.
This weekend the site will be open on Saturday, August 3rd for interior, and sidewalk activities between the work hours of 7AM and 5PM as permitted by the City. Additionally we will be paving along 13th st.
Just a note to those who have made inquiry, the wall board panels are temporary and will be replaced when the final entrances are installed.
Union Sq. WiFi Is Running

Union Square Park has new and improved free Wi-Fi. The service can accommodate up to 250 people simultaneously using wireless devices, from laptop computers to iPhones and other P.D.A.’s. Two Altai A8 antennas are situated on rooftops at the park’s north and south ends, providing coverage to users in the park, as well as the surrounding area There’s also a local community portal Web page with event listings and recommendations on places to dine and shop.
Korean War?
ByDonHere on 13th St., ten-year-old Korean restaurant DoSirak has closed, while across the street in our building, BAK has opened. As it turns out, the BAK folks are the DoSirak folks, so all is well. Kimchi for all.
Closure of Nearby Benefits Center Clears Things Up
ByDonThe city has closed the welfare benefits center at 12 West 14th St. This news matters to us because for many years, benefits seekers have mistakenly arrived at our building, 12 East 14th St., in search of services. It was confusing all around but is confusing no more.
