Parking Garage to Become Luxury Apartments?

Rumor has it that the parking garage directly across from us at 12 East 13th St. is for sale and could be converted into offices, a hotel, or most likely 17 to 20 luxury condos. More construction to come????

  • Will Artists Be Pushed Out of the Park?

    How do you feel about all those artists who take up quite a bit of space selling their art at the southwest corner of Union Square Park. Here’s an article that says they may soon be squeezed into a smaller area:

    The Parks Department has proposed new regulations that would drastically limit the number of artists allowed to sell their work in Union Square and other Manhattan parks.

    The Parks Department claims the rules will decrease congestion, but critics accuse the city of pushing out independent street artists in order to replace them with more lucrative vendors.

    The Parks Department declined to answer questions submitted by the NY Destinations Examiner .

    A Parks Department spokesperson provided an email statement, much of which was excerpted from the Parks Department’s March 24 notice in The City Record .

    ” The dramatic increase in the number of expressive matter vendors on parkland has prompted the Parks Department to develop these rules in an effort to strike a balance between these vendors and other park users, and address other concerns related to maintaining and operating open space in an urban environment, ” reads the statement.

  • Latest New School Construction Update

    Next week (February 6 to February 10), Superstructure work will continue at and 4th and 5th floor levels. The following week (February 13 to February 17), we will continue superstructure concrete and slabs on 4th, 5th and 6th floor levels.

    This weekend the site will be open on Saturday, February 4th for superstructure related activities between the work hours of 7AM and 5PM as permitted by the City. To control noise levels within the site, work activities will be limited to the placement of formwork and concrete, plumbing and electrical work, rebar for concrete placement, using the crane and equipment to support all activities. Safety horns are used, and required by law, to coordinate lifting with the crane and to alert the workers of the danger overhead. We have directed the operators to limit the use of horns to one short sounding and to use the crane later in the day so as to avoid any excess noise.
