    First came a cafe that becomes a wine bar in the evening. Stage 2 of this sprawling complex in part of the original Barnes & Noble bookstore is a restaurant. A very long bar opposite high-top tables leads to a dining room that is a study in recycling, decorated in reclaimed wood, with chairs strapped in rubber from discarded tires. There’s a raw bar and a charcuterie station. The chef, Yvan Lemoine, focuses on seasonal American fare. At his side, and supplying the cafe with baked goods, is Thiago Silva.     The following week (September 23 to September 27), material and equipment deliveries and installation work will continue on academic floors. This weekend the site will be open on Saturday, September 14th for interior activities between the work hours of 7AM and 5PM as permitted by the City.

Recycle your unwanted textile materials at the Union Square Greenmarket every Monday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Acceptable donations include used clothing, shoes, boots, hats, jackets, towels, bedding, and linens. Council on the Environment of New York City will provide receipts upon request for those who may want to use their donation as a charitable contribution.   • Fancy Wine Bar to Fill Vacant 13th St. Space

    Laura Maniec, one of only eighteen female master sommeliers in the world and, at 31, currently the youngest, is about to open her own studio and wine bar. Maniec, who served as wine director at BR Guest for ten years and has just launched the wine program at Niko, has signed a lease on a space at 13 East 13th Street in Union Square and plans to unveil Corkbuzz in May. “It will be an extension of your living room and a place for all things wine,” she tells us. In addition to serving vintages from all over the world, Corkbuzz will offer small plates from oysters and sea urchin to pastas and cheese. The 2,500-square-foot space will also host classes, tastings, and events.
