Fredi Sandwich Bar, Now Open

The retail retreat continues. MAC Cosmetics is gone from its 14th St. perch near Broadway.

The suburbanization of Union Square continues with the arrival of the Panera Bread chain on Union Square East between 14th and 15th Streets.

Due to city budget cuts, this year’s gay pride parade will be a mile shorter than in previous years. That means the usual big crowds along 5th Ave in the Village are going to be even that much bigger. Brace yourself.

Witnick Real Estate Partners purchased a mixed-use, multifamily apartment building in Union Square for $23 million. The building, located at 30 East 14th Street between Fifth Avenue and University Place, came with 30,720 square feet of air rights and sold for approximately $1,124 per square foot, meaning that a larger building might be on the way. But, plans for the property are unclear and Witnick did not respond to a request for comment.
