Here’s some interesting gossip: “A 50’s-era-themed supper club is slated to open mid-October on 9th Street between 5th and 6th. No live music, but all the Lobster Thermidor, Baked Alaska and old-school cocktails you and your hep date can handle.”

Get ready for Hashi Market. This small but growing chain of Japanese markets will open a store at 93 University Place, the former home of Saigon Market and vacant for four years.

Next week (February 25 to March 1), material and equipment deliveries and installation work will continue on all floors inside the building as well as roof work. Additionally we will begin work on the new sidewalks around the building. We have begun dismantling the construction hoist on the building exterior and will continue to do so for the upcoming weeks.

The following week (March 4 to March 8), material and equipment deliveries and installation work will continue on all floors and roofs as well as sidewalk work.

This weekend the site will be open on Saturday, February 23rd for interior, superstructure, sidewalk, and hoist removal related activities between the work hours of 7AM and 5PM as permitted by the City.

Skip the holiday gifting anxiety attacks this year and head to the Union Square Holiday Market, now in it’s 13th year. Gothamist reports that Nordstrom is very close to signing on to take over the Virgin Megastore space to install one of its discount Nordstrom Rack stores. Sounds fine, although some bloggers would much rather have a Target there.
