Happy Holiday Market
We were going to announce the opening of the Union Square Holiday Market today, but it’s been open for over a week already. Christmas comes earlier every year. Our advice: go midday. At night it’s an agita-inducing mosh pit.

What’s Up with the Burned-Out Deli?
Got $15 million? That’s what it will cost you to buy the burned out deli on the corner of 13th and 5th, which has stood vacant for the past two years. At that price, and given the zoning regulations, the most likely outcome would be a 10-story luxury condo building. But now doesn’t seem to be a good time for new condo development, so there are no takers. Even the New School, which as we all know is interested in increasing its presence in the area, has said that it is uninterested in the lot. The first headquarters of the NAACP, was at 69 5th Ave., where the New School building is now. From 1920 to 1938, they flew this flag whenever they received a report of a lynching anywhere in America. This view, which hasn’t changed much, is looking south on 5th Ave.
