Everyone complains that Whole Foods is too expensive. What to do? Track the weekly sales, which sometimes have excellent deals on fresh meat and vegetables. Friend Whole Foods Market NYC on Facebook or follow on Twitter, and you’ll see the deals every week.

Long-timers will remember the 40-foot lizard that one sat atop the now demolished deli on the corner of 13th and 5th when it was the famed Lone Star Cafe. The bar closed in 1989, and the iguana disappeared, but as this article says, it has now been found.

Striking barbers meet to talk things over at the north end of Union Square in 1913. Those were the days.

The annual shareholder’s meeting will take place on Wednesday June 30th at 7PM at the Seafarers’ and Interational House at 123 East 15th St, second floor.

At the meeting, the Board of Directors will be seeking at least one new member. If you wish to become a candidate for the Board and have your name placed on the ballot, please feel free to provide a short biography of yourself via fax (212) 986-0002 or e-mail to ymartinez@akam.com. The Board will also welcome nominations at the meeting itself.

Just what we needed: another beverage outlet. Meet Argo Tea, a small chain of fancy tea shops, which will soon open a new branch in the old Dean and Deluca space on University Place. (You can sample it now at another outlet in the Flatiron Building.)

We’ll miss Cafe Deville on the corner of 13th and 3rd. Replacing it is Penny Farthing, a gastropub type place that is off to a fast start.

Wow. NYU has some very big plans for its expansion.
