Happy Holiday Market

We were going to announce the opening of the Union Square Holiday Market today, but it’s been open for over a week already. Christmas comes earlier every year. Our advice: go midday. At night it’s an agita-inducing mosh pit.

Well That Was Quick

Certified closed: Recess, the angular coffee and snack shop on the corner of University and 10th. It lasted only about six months.

Karaoke Boho has struggled to open at the old Crunch location on East 13th St. for six months. Now a slight change: in addition to karaoke, the store is offering a full Korean restaurant, some competition for the adorable Do Sirak on our block.

Pop Goes the Burger

Looks like University Place will soon get a branch of the popular Pop Burger near 10th St. Also at that location, a coffee spot called Pop Roast. Expected opening: early 2011

The board is currently searching for a super. It is taking a bit of time, but obviously it wants to make the right decision and find the perfect person. Please stand by.

Cafe Spice will become Jackson Diner, an Indian import from Queens.

Closed at the corner of 13th and 6th. Probably because for take out, the food was too pricey. Wonder what will fill that cursed space next.

News from the University Place dining scene: Nino Selimaj has turned one of several Italian restaurants bearing his given name into a nuevo Latino bistro, with Ricardo Cardona as the consulting chef: Osso Buco in Greenwich Village will become Scarpina Bar & Grill (Nov. 4): 88 University Place (12th Street), (212) 645-4525.
