Our Supertall Neighbor Begins Its (Expensive) Reveal

    ByDon August 26, 2016December 6, 2024

From Curbed: Now that the demolition of the Greenwich Village building that once held Bowlmor Lanes (RIP) is complete, it paves the way for the 23-story tower that’s due to rise on the site. And now, Curbed has the first details on that development: The building, designed by Annabelle Selldorf, will be called 21E12, and a teaser site launches today. As for pricing, considering that these are Selldorf condos in a desirable neighborhood, they’re about as expensive as you might expect: one-bedrooms will start at $2.35 million; two-bedrooms will start at $3.95 million; three-bedrooms will go from $5.45 million; four-bedrooms, from $8.25 million; and a selection of townhouses and penthouses will range from $10.5 million to more than $15 million.

Hyatt Union Square Will Add Urban Farm

    ByDon August 26, 2016

The nonprofit behind the Union Square Greenmarket plans to open a new community space in the neighborhood to host events and classes on sustainability and nutrition, and provide a spot for other nonprofits in the city to gather near Union Square, according to GrowNYC Assistant Director Julie Walsh. The space, called “Project Farmhouse,” is expected to open at 76 E. 13th St., near Fourth Avenue, by November with a test kitchen, a conference room and a vertical grow wall with moving trays designed to rotate plants so they all get the ideal amount of water, fertilizer and light, said Kate Chura of GrowNYC, who is overseeing the project.

New Deli to Replace Four Defunct Delis

    ByDon June 27, 2016

A 5th Ave. welcome to Merci Market, which is opening just around the corner at 5th and 13th in a space formerly occupied by a series of trendy restaurants that ended with Danal. The neighborhood has lost four corner delis in the past ten years, so while this one may be pricier than the ones that have departed, at least it will be convenient.

Demolition on West 17/18th Streets for…Condos?

    ByDon June 5, 2016June 3, 2016

    From DNAinfo:

A developer’s plans to knock down two buildings in an historic district near Union Square to make room for new apartment towers, was shot down by the local community board, who say the integrity of the neighborhood and the retail options there should be preserved. Developer C.A. White wants to tear down two buildings at 21 W. 17th St. and 16 W. 18th St. to build 13- and 11-story apartment buildings in their place. The current buildings, which are significantly shorter, are occupied by a Rent a Runway shop and an empty storefront, formerly home to the restaurant BLT. They’re also a part of the Ladies Mile Historic District, and would ultimately need approval from the Landmark Preservation Commission to be altered.
